At a great entry-level price for a certified Swiss chronometer with an automatic mechanical movement, we have this very nice, very smart-looking stainless-steel, silver-dial 40mm TAG Heuer Grand CARRERA. This watch's official model reference number is WAV511B.BA0900. It was new in Nov 2013, comes with its box and books/papers and is in very good condition.
Two stand-out features of this watch are:
- a display window set into the back of the watch's case (as you can see in one of the photos above), enabling you to appreciate the exquisite, high-precision, fine miniature engineering, craftsmanship and finishing that has gone into the Calibre 6 movement inside; and
- a novel "second disc". Instead of the usual second hand, this watch displays seconds via a rotating disc in the subsidiary aperture at the 6 o'clock position of the dial: a really neat feature that sits alongside the faceted and polished hands and indices, and also a date aperture at 3 o'clock.
The dial is protected under a scratch-resistant "glass" that's actually made from a piece of sapphire, an ultra-hard gemstone material. This has been given a treatment to reduce reflections, making the clear dial even easier to read.
The watch is mounted on a very smart link bracelet which is closed with a neat, push-button-release double-folding clasp.
